The story of queer India has largely been synonymous with urban India and cities. As the power of queer money and low-hanging kudos for representation beckon (lesbians too can practice Karwa Chauth and use fairness creams, anyone?) — the images we see are flattened. With this graphic narrative, we bring you instead, queer stories from rural Uttar Pradesh. Stories — plural, because they are multiple and not homogenous. Based on field reporting by KL senior reporter Nazni Rizvi, writing and editing by Riddhi Dastidar and illustration and design by Jyotsana Singh — we did our best to live up to the stories we were telling.
