In the first general elections of 1952, certain ballot boxes were found with flowers and dusted with vermillion, indicating that people regarded them as objects of worship. Moreover, numerous boxes contained diverse objects besides ballot papers such as chits wishing success/photographs of hollywood stars, coins, currency notes etc.
