'They Mean Business' was such a heartening read about the everyday grit of women running businesses in India's small towns.

At Sajhe Sapne, our non-profit working with young rural women to launch their careers, we use reading material from KL Hatke as part of their training. Its high-quality storytelling from rural India, combined with strong and contemporary visual elements, has been invaluable. The content not only aids English learning through relatable stories but also sparks meaningful discussions during our sessions. I hope this incredible work reaches more colleges and students, prompting impactful conversations both inside and outside the classroom. Do subscribe and support their work.

Subscribing to KL Hatke hasn’t just restored my faith in journalism—it has been more educational and enriching than my college degree. It has shaped my comedy and creative work while helping me make my feminist pursuits more intersectional and accessible. I highly recommend reading their reports, articles, and the brilliant stories they present—with integrity, competence, and, at times, a fantastic sense of humor.

I am a proud subscriber to KL Hatke and have been for some years now. It is by far the most authentic voice out of Bundelkhand, telling the stories of women, Dalits, Adivasis and other marginalised communities through a proudly feminist lens. I believe Khabar Lahariya is not just a news medium, but a vehicle for social change. Please read it and support it by subscribing. You can thank me later.
- Namita Bhandare, Independent Journalist
Khabar Lahariya has a long, revolutionary history as one of the first grassroots media collectives run by a uniquely diverse group of women, and editorially helmed by women from marginalised castes and rural communities. We have come a long way from starting as a hyperlocal print newspaper in Uttar Pradesh in 2002, often written from a feminist perspective for the semi-rural and rural audience in simple language and local dialects.
Now, as a digital-only publication since 2016, we still have a long way to go. For our future as an independent feminist media, KL Hatke is an important part of that independent and financially sustainable future.
And your subscription helps us research, report, produce, develop, and publish the content you see on Khabar Lahariya’s digital platforms. It helps us fairly compensate our team of reporters, writers, editors, and designers. Your support and trust in us are integral to keeping us going, pushing boundaries with our reportage, and proving that stories from the margins can defy algorithms, find their audience, resonate, inform, shape perspectives, and inform public discourse.
If your university, college, company, or organisation is interested in purchasing a subscription or setting up a trial, please get in touch with us at info@khabarlahariya.org.
Our current roster of university subscribers includes institutions such as:
In addition to access to all our paywalled content, your organization can also interact with the Khabar Lahariya team through a masterclass or a fireside chat. We offer both domain-based and IP-based access options for group subscriptions, along with a trial period to help you evaluate the subscription.
Our university partners can opt for a virtual masterclass with our experienced journalists for their students. In these sessions, our reporters have covered a range of topics, including the importance of amplifying voices from the margins and the unique challenges of rural reporting. They have also presented analyses of Khabar Lahariya’s impactful reportage, such as exposing healthcare lapses and illegal sand mining, as well as the intricacies of reporting on gender-based violence and caste discrimination. The masterclass can be particularly valuable and insightful for media and journalism students. Our team works closely with the relevant university department or faculty to design a masterclass that best suits their students' needs.
Ideal for organisations seeking a more personal interaction, our Fireside Chat and interactive Q&A format offer an opportunity to engage with members of Khabar Lahariya in an in-depth conversation. Organisations have chosen to discuss our history, our experience reporting from rural India for over two decades, our current operations, new ventures, and future plans.
