Chambal Media is organising a Public Event on 26th August 2023, from 10am to 8pm, in collaboration with IIC and supported by Google News Initiative.

Public Event is open to everyone. It includes “Photo Exhibition, Panel Discussions on Voices from the Margins, Reclaiming Public Spaces, Next Generation Storytellers and Future of Indian Media. Also, Rural Reporting Toolkit Launch, An expert talk on Building a Company with Diversity and Inclusion; "Meelon Door" Film screening and end with Music by Local Bundeli troupe.

A conversation on the significance of enabling representation of marginalised communities in news stories and newsrooms alike.

- Strategies to address prejudice when portraying minorities and vulnerable social groups.
- Insights into media companies' strategies for embracing diversity, and the transformative potential of inclusive editorial decisions.

About the session
A conversation with past, present, future change-makers at Khabar Lahariya & Chambal Media. The conversation will delve into what it is like to run a media outlet for over 20 years, survive and thrive, speak to the media landscape and maintain unique voices.

DOCUMENTARY SCREENING: MILES AWAY / MEELON DUR:
Film screening: Meelon Door, a film on migration and its impact on women, an upcoming Chambal Media production

Synopsis
The lives of three female labourers working in a brick kiln in India take an upsetting turn after unseasonal rainfall halts their work. What unfolds is a threatening tale of unorganised labour and economic debts in a rapidly urbanising India.

The screening will be followed by a Q&A session featuring the directors, research partners and producers Dr. Paula Chakravartty (NYU) and Dr. Michelle Buckley (University of Toronto), alongside the protagonists. The discussion will be moderated by filmmaker Shabani Hassanwalia.
