A shocking incident of sexual violence against a young girl came to light in Baberu block of Banda district. This at a time when the world is observing vigil over gender-based violence. A 14-year old Dalit girl was allegedly raped in her own house. The Baberu police has arrested the accused.
At midnight on 2nd December, the survivor’s mother was alarmed to find her elder daughter missing from the room in front of the courtyard. She found the girl gagged and unconscious in a corner of the room. On regaining consciousness the girl told her family that a person from the same village, Lalit Kishor, had raped her and had threatened to kill her if she raised a ruckus on the issue.
The Dewan at the Baberu Police Station lodged a complaint on the basis of the statement given by the girl’s mother. The medical examination report of the girl is awaited. The police have arrested Lalit Kishor and have sent him to jail. The following charges have been levelled against the accused: rape, criminal intimidation, trespass for assault, kidnapping from lawful guardianship, the SC-ST Prevention of Atrocities Act and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
